How to Choose the Right Bed for Your Bedroom?

How to Choose the Right Bed for Your Bedroom?

Choosing a bed is one of the most important personal decisions you make when you move into a new home or apartment or when it’s simply time to replace an existing bed. However, before you make your purchase, we suggest you follow these smart steps to avoid ending up with a bed that is small or too big that will end up cluttering your bedroom.

1)      Visualize how you are going to position your bed. This helps gives you an idea of how to position the rest of your bedroom furniture.

2)      Measure your bedroom walls; particularly the wall the headboard will go against. Having measured the walls and by using the chart below you will be able to determine what size bed can fit in your bedroom. It is recommended to have 30” to 36” space around your bed for access.

                                                                 Twin Size 39” x 75”

                                                                 Twin XL   39” x 80”

                                                                 Full Size 54” x 75”

                                                                 Queen Size 60” x 80”

                                                                  Standard King 76” x 80”

                                                                  California King 72” x 84”

3)      Once you have narrowed down your selection to one or two bed sizes, consider storage. Is the closet or dressing room big enough for all your storage needs or do you still need a dresser or a chest of drawers for additional storage space? How about a night stand?

Here are the most common size charts for dressers, chest of drawers and night stands

                                   Dressers 58”L x 16”D x 35”H

                                   Chest of Drawers 34” x 16”D x 48”H

                                   Night Stands 22”L x 16”D x 24”H

4)      If the room is too small for a chest or dresser, you might have to consider a bed with under bed storage as this will keep the clutter to a minimum.

5)      If the room is medium to large in size, then you can easily add 1 to 2 night stands next to bed, as well as dresser with a mirror. If the room and your budget allows it, you can even a chest of drawers. Some might elect to replace the chest of drawers with a media chest. A bench next to foot-board or an accent chair might give the bedroom a chic look.

6)      Having configured the bed size and bedroom layout it is time to select the furniture style. There are many styles to select from, which are: traditional, mission, contemporary, modern or metal. For a sleek look that will also save you money, go for a minimalist look with a simple platform bed with a mattress.
