To increase the sleeping capacity add a twin XL or full XL trundle.

Ladder:

Choosing Between A Slanted or Vertical Ladder

 

Slanted ladders make it easier to climb to the upper bed for both kids and adults. However, It is not as space saving as a vertical one.

Furthermore, slanted ladder impedes the movement of the under bed trundle or drawers.

If space allows for it and you are not buying any of the two options, this is the choice here.

Vertical ladders as shown in image are space saving, they attach to both top and bottom rails and DO NOT impede the movement of the trundle or the drawers.

If space is at a premium or you are buying one of the two options above, vertical ladder is the choice here.
